Thanks to All of Our Volunteers!
The Humane Society of Northwest Georgia is a volunteer organization with just a small number of paid employees. The majority of volunteers help at the shelter taking care of the animals. We have three dog shifts each day consisting of a minimum of two people and up to five or six at a time, and two cat shifts each day consisting of one or two people.
Each shift has a lead person who is in charge, gives direction and has the keys to gain entry to the building.
The dog kennel shifts are:
AM Shift: Usually 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM
DAY Shift: 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
PM Shift: 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The dog kennel volunteers usually get done in about two to two and a half hours. Their duties are to feed and water the dogs, walk dogs, bring them out for 20-30 minute play times, and clean kennels.
The cattery shifts are:
AM Shift: Usually starts about 7:00 AM
PM Shift: Usually starts around 6:00 PM
The Cattery volunteers usually get done in about one hour or so even with some short play time with the cats. Their duties are to scoop litter boxes, sweep the floors, make sure there is fresh water and food in the bowls to last until the next shift comes in.
